Retired Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) player Jared “Anomaly” Simmons has garnered an astonishing 50,000 subscribers. While most would expect the Twitch community and his colleagues to congratulate him, it’s quite the opposite. Anomaly faces massive backlash from other top streamers and communities, condemning him for how he’s skyrocketed his numbers.
Ever since Riot allowed their partnered content creators to have drops exclusively for their stream, the Valorant viewership has been off the charts. In hopes of gaining access to the closed beta, fans tuned in around the world. Some users were so eager for a key that they opened up tens of streams for a higher drop rate.
Anomaly takes advantage of the system
Valorant‘s inflated viewership had top creators like Jaryd “summit1g” Lazar attracting 200,000 viewers. Many streamers started hosting 24/7 streams to reap the benefits from the massive influx of attention. Anomaly, however, took his channel to the next level and began replaying previous Valorant highlight reels. His inflated viewership and constant broadcasts have earned him over 50,000 subscribers, some whom have never seen him live before.

While there’s a multitude of streamers following in his footsteps, Anomaly is by far the biggest offender. Top content creators from FPS communities have spoken out against the 24/7 re-run streams.

Some creators state the streamer’s actions are irresponsible, despite there being no Twitch rules against rebroadcasting content. Streamer Erik “fl0m” Flom says Anomaly is actively taking opportunity away from smaller streamers who are overshadowed by his constant re-runs.

At any given time, Anomaly’s rebroadcasts may have 60,000 viewers or more. During this time, users are subbing and donating. Anomaly also runs ads, meaning even if people aren’t subbing, he’s still raking in the dough. Replies to threads about Anomaly feature users saying Anomaly’s stream is a “scam” and that he’s money-hungry.
At the time of writing, there’s no news as to whether or not Twitch has plans to rework the guidelines for streamers re-running their content. It’s unlikely that Anomaly and other creators will stop re-streaming their content anytime soon.
