The Pokémon series has been out for over 20 years now and some things never change. One consistent part of the franchise is the inclusion of fire-type Pokémon and, specifically, the ability to choose one as your very first Pokémon on your adventure.
Just like in every mainline game, there is a fire-type starter Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for players to choose from. But before players choose Fuecoco as their companion on their journey, players should know what Pokémon are good against fire types so they are prepared on the battlefield.
Here are all the fire-type weaknesses in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Water
You might have been able to guess this one! Just like in the real world, when there needs to be a fire put out, water is there to save the day. The natural enemy of fire is water and that’s definitely true in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Water-type moves are super effective against fire-type Pokémon dealing double damage and at the same time, fire-type moves are not very effective against water-type Pokémon dealing only half damage. Players need to be wary of water-type Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and one of the first Pokémon players will encounter is the water-type starter, Quaxly.
Rock
Rock is the second typing that fire-type Pokémon are weak against. In nature, fire doesn’t do much to rocks and rocks are even a good way to put a fire out. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, rock-type moves are super effective against fire-type Pokémon, dealing double damage. Just like water-type Pokémon, rock-type Pokémon resist fire-type moves as they only take half damage from those moves.
Ground
Fire is a somewhat privileged typing in Pokémon as there are only three weaknesses to it. Ground-type is the last of the three weaknesses to fire-type Pokémon and it’s only halfway. That means ground-type moves are super effective against fire-type Pokémon dealing double damage but ground-type Pokémon don’t naturally resist fire-type moves.
Basically, fire-type moves will hit for their normal damage against ground-type Pokémon. With that said, it’s important to look out for ground-type moves in battle with one of the most common ones being Earthquake.
