It took all three maps and 84 rounds, but Virtus.pro keep their PGL Major hopes alive by eliminating MOUZ. VP will play again tomorrow against FaZe Clan in a do-or-die best-of-three that will decide whether they will be eliminated or progress to the playoffs of the PGL Major.
The match between VP and MOUZ started on Ancient, where MOUZ walked over the CIS team in 16-9 fashion. Map 2 was Inferno and was similarly one-sided, going 16-3 for VP. Vertigo was the back-and-forth slugfest that was missing from the previous two games. The final scoreline was 22-18 in favor of VP. Timur “buster” Tulepov was the standout player for VP, dropping 35 kills with a 1.37 rating on the third map.
Virtus.pro are now 2-2, having beaten Vitality before losing to Natus Vincere and Gambit Esports, and then finally toppling MOUZ. To progress from the Swiss-system bracket, they have to accrue a third win tomorrow.
For MOUZ, it’s the end of the line. Despite an early exit from IEM Fall, MOUZ were able to qualify for the PGL Major off the back of their first place finish at the first regional major rankings event of the year, Flashpoint Season 3. The team, led by superstar Robin “ropz” Kool, qualified into the Challengers stage where they went 3-2, scraping into the next leg of the major as Legends. They lost to Ninjas in Pyjamas and FURIA Esports in best-of-ones, before knocking out ENCE in a best-of-three yesterday.
Only three spots remain in the Champions stage playoffs of the PGL Major Stockholm with Na’Vi, G2 Esports, FURIA, Heroic and Gambit Esports already qualified. Tomorrow’s matches will determine the remaining new Champions. The PGL Major playoffs begin on Nov. 3 and will be played in the Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
