The 2022 League of Legends Championship Series summer split is finally back after a two-week break, with Week 4 kicking off on Saturday, July 16. Even with the teams rested, the split is already heating up, with multiple players and teams looking to keep on track or get back on it. Here are the biggest storylines to pay attention to when the action picks back up in the 2022 LCS summer split.
Can CLG get back on track?
Counter Logic Gaming have been the darlings of the 2022 LCS summer split so far. As a perennial bottom dweller over the last few years, CLG turned heads in the first two weeks of the split, even ending Week 2 in first place after upsetting defending LCS champions Evil Geniuses. However, Week 3 wasn’t kind for the young squad; they suffered their first winless week of the split, causing them to come crashing back down to earth after losing to both Cloud9 and Team Liquid Honda. In what was supposed to be a litmus test for the team, CLG failed hard. However, they did have a reasonable excuse with their jungler Juan “Contractz” Garcia playing through a COVID-19 infection.
The extra week of rest has been undoubtedly beneficial for this CLG team, with time to get healthy again, CLG is looking to show they didn’t just have a good couple of weeks and instead look to show the league that they are for real when they go up against Immortals and 100 Thieves in Week 4.
FlyQuest stay on it
In the 2022 LCS season, FlyQuest has been an average team record-wise literally. In the 2022 LCS spring split, the team finished with a 9-9 record; though, at certain times they looked like the best team in the league, especially after Week 3 when they were 5-1 and in first place. Heading into Week 3 of the 2022 LCS summer split, FQ were nowhere near the top as they came into the week with just a 2-3 record. But with a clean 2-0 week, their first of the season, FQ have recaptured a bit of their early spring form. Their wins were impressive as well, with a victory against C9 and Dignitas.
However, after Week 3 in the spring split, the wheels started to fall off. With FQ entering Week 4 on a winning streak, will they manage to keep the wheels on the track against TSM and 100?
Will EG distance themselves at the top or will TL leapfrog
So far in the 2022 LCS summer split, there have been a couple of marquee matchups but there has not been a battle between the two perceived best teams in the league yet. That will change in Week 4 when EG squares off against TL.
EG is coming into the matchup in first place with a 6-1 record; their lone loss comes from CLG back in Week 2. TL is right behind them with a 5-2 record, but have not had a clean week since Week 1 where they went 3-0. EG are still the favorites heading into this contest, but with TL’s extra week of rest and prep, the match between these two teams is expected to be a good one with first place on the line.
